The Artists’ Marks, Curated by Claudia Craemer, is a survey of the drawings, paintings and prints of Richard Benoit, Akiko Matsuoka-Thorson and Gary Thomas, three artists who are concerned with and often identified by their own personal technical processes of transforming a blank work surface into a meaningful image.
The exhibit presents evidence of how their marking systems are quite different from each other, and how those differences often determine extremely varied resulting images and implied meanings.
The Artists’ Marks gives viewers an opportunity to learn more about the work of these three artists who have had been honored and exhibited in numerous regional shows, and to gain insight into their unique mark-making processes.

Chicago Heights
Historic House Walk
Saturday, September 18, 10am - 2pm, $20

This year Union Street Gallery is on the Historic House Walk! Attendees meet at Union Street Gallery first thing to kick off the walk, purchase / pick up tickets, and have refreshments. Union Street Gallery is a really beautiful adaptive reuse of an historic building. USG is a reclaimed elks lodge built in 1927, and still retains many of it original features such as exposed iron beams across the ceilings, beautiful glass skylights on the 3rd floor, mezzanine, and the external ornamentation including the elks head.
After USG House Walkers will then tour four lovely homes and enjoy lemonade and snacks at the end of your tour.
